Daylesford: A Quiet Escape into Nature
The sun was sinking behind the trees, its golden light spilling through the forest outside my window. The smell of wood smoke drifted through the house, promising dinner not far away. It was the AFL long weekend, and while the crowds went to the game, we had chosen something else: the quiet of the forest. From bed, I watched the sunset, the soft glow of komorebi (木漏れ日) on the leaves, and felt my soul being refuelled. These escapes from the city always remind me of what really matters.
This time I wasn’t at my desk, or even at home. I was in Daylesford, one of my favourite places.
I can’t explain exactly what makes Daylesford so special. Maybe it is the combination of things. We started coming here around 2020, and ever since, the town has felt like a second home. Just an hour and a half from Melbourne, it offers everything you could want: bars, food, and style. But that is not why I keep returning. What draws me back is the nature. The chorus of birds at dawn. The trees swaying with the wind. Long walks that clear the mind. Conversations by the fire that stretch into the night. It is the memories and the energy that live in this place.
I have visited many times, and it never gets old. The same paths, the same forest, and yet always something new.
I have taken countless photos here, but I rarely share them. Somehow they never seem to capture what it feels like to stand in this landscape.
This time, instead of digging up old photos, I decided to put together a few clips of what I love about this place. Nothing planned, nothing scripted, just small glimpses of the nature around us.
I hope you enjoy it.
