The Sapphire by the Gardens

A Winter Walk Through Melbourne’s Golden Landmark

I’ve seen this building many times during its construction and always felt fascinated by its striking design and the golden bridge that connects both towers like a suspended thread of light.

A few weeks ago, I decided to explore it more closely — not just the structure itself, but the stories nestled around its feet, in the Carlton Gardens. I couldn’t have asked for a better day. It was nearly winter, yet the air was warm, and the sun sat low in the sky, casting a light that made the building shimmer with unexpected colours. And the gardens? They were in full bloom with life. Weddings, joggers, couples young and old — people everywhere, each in search of their own story. The trees were draped in vibrant leaves, painting the afternoon with the soft tones of autumn.

Honestly, I didn’t have a plan. That morning, all I knew was that I wanted to be there. No tripod, no special lenses — I wasn’t sure if I would even take a photo. I think I didn’t want to overthink it. I just wanted to follow the impulse. So around midday, I made a quick decision, jumped on a tram, and let the day carry me.

And when I arrived, everything felt ready. The light, the place, the feeling in the air. So I picked up my camera and let instinct lead. Frame by frame, I captured what I saw and felt.

This little story came from that moment — and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed being there to create it.

If it speaks to you, feel free to share it with someone else who might enjoy it too
